Oleo-pneumatic shock absorbers / linear decelerators
Engineered for Repetitive, High-Cycle Performance
Hidracar specializes in engineering high-performance oleo-pneumatic shock absorbers and linear decelerators designed to manage kinetic energy in the most demanding industrial environments. Our devices are essential for safely and efficiently decelerating moving masses in reciprocating, linear, circular, and other complex movements. They also serve critical roles as shock absorbers for weights in free fall, as suspension components for specialized vehicles and wagons, and for the precise tightening of chains, conveyor belts, rollers, and more.
A key differentiator of Hidracar shock absorbers is their design for continuous, repetitive use. Unlike many emergency shock absorbers on the market that are single-use and require replacement after a major impact, our units are engineered to withstand thousands of cycles, providing long-term reliability and significantly reducing operational costs.
SHOCK ABSORBER TESTS: Validated Performance for Critical Infrastructure
Our commitment to quality and safety is demonstrated through rigorous validation protocols. Our new shock absorbers for tramways (AHN-4.3) have been verified through dynamic impact tests.
The tests consisted of the collision of two 30tn masses, each equipped with a shock absorber, at different speeds.
The oleo pneumatic shock absorber / linear decelerator is capable of absorbing 22.5 KJ impact energy with a stroke of less than 150mm without exceeding the requirement for Maximum Allowable Force of 200 KN.
After verification and testing, HIDRACAR shock absorbers / linear decelerators are available to our customers for its use as a recoverable shock absorber on tramways fronts.
DESCRIPTION AND PERFORMANCE: Engineered for a Wide Range of Demands
Their energy absorption ranges from 500 kpm to 30,000 kpm, with a deceleration stroke from 50 mm to 500 mm.
The impact head can be made either in steel or polyurethane.
Oleo Pneumatic Shock Absorbers Designed for Repetitive Use, Not Just Emergency Stops
The core of our design philosophy is to create shock absorbers that are a permanent part of your machinery, not a disposable component. This is a critical distinction from single-use emergency shock absorbers.
- Single-Use vs. Multi-Cycle Design: Many standard hydraulic shock absorbers designed for emergency stops (e.g., on cranes or as end-stops) are intended to function once and then be replaced. Their internal seals and components are not designed to withstand the fatigue of repeated, high-energy impacts. In contrast, Hidracar shock absorbers are built with robust seals, precision-machined components, and a recuperative oleo-pneumatic system that automatically resets after each stroke, ready for the next impact.
- Cost-Efficiency and Reduced Downtime: The "replace-after-impact" model of emergency shock absorbers leads to unexpected costs for new parts and significant downtime for installation. Our repetitive-use shock absorbers eliminate this. By performing reliably over thousands of cycles, they provide a much lower total cost of ownership and ensure continuous operation, which is vital for production lines and daily transport services like tramways.
- Proven in High-Cycle Applications: The tramway application described in our tests is a perfect example. A tram requires a shock absorber that can reliably perform at every station stop and in every potential incident, not just once. Our AHN-4.3 model is validated for exactly this kind of repetitive, high-cycle duty.
Advanced Working Principle: The Synergy of Oil and Gas for Longevity
The superior, durable performance of Hidracar shock absorbers stems from their refined oleo-pneumatic operating principle. This system is designed for endurance, not just a single event.
- Energy Conversion and Dissipation: Upon impact, a piston rod is forced into the cylinder, displacing oil through precisely calibrated and hardened orifices. This process efficiently converts the kinetic energy of the moving mass into thermal energy, which is then dissipated over the large surface area of the cylinder. This controlled process prevents the localized overheating and seal degradation that can plague inferior models.
- Self-Recuperating Gas Spring: The displaced oil compresses the sealed nitrogen gas, which acts as a reliable gas spring. After the energy is dissipated, the gas expansion returns the piston rod to its ready position, ensuring the unit is immediately prepared for the next cycle without any manual intervention.
Key Features and Design Advantages for Continuous Operation
- High Cycle Life: Engineered with premium materials and sealing technologies to endure the mechanical stress of repeated impacts, making them ideal for automation, robotics, and material handling.
- Robust Construction: Built with high-strength materials and precision machining to ensure long-term reliability and resistance to harsh operating conditions, from temperature variations to contaminant exposure.
- Adjustable Damping: Many models feature adjustable damping mechanisms, allowing for fine-tuning of the deceleration force to match specific application requirements perfectly, which optimizes performance and extends service life.
- Material Versatility: The option of steel or polyurethane impact heads allows for customization based on the application—steel for maximum durability in high-impact scenarios, and polyurethane to minimize noise and prevent marring of the impacting surface in high-frequency applications.
Extended Industrial Applications for Repetitive Use
Hidracar shock absorbers are indispensable in applications where impacts are a constant part of the operation:
- Automation and Robotics: Decelerating robotic arms, gantries, and linear actuators thousands of times per day to ensure precise positioning and prevent damage from abrupt stops.
- Material Handling & Conveyor Systems: Absorbing the impact of products and packages at transfer points, end-stops, and sorting stations, 24/7.
- Heavy Machinery: Managing the repetitive forces in hydraulic presses, stamping machines, and forging equipment to enhance operational safety and component lifespan.
- Transportation: Providing reliable, daily collision protection for tramways, trains, and other rail vehicles, as well as suspension and damping for commercial vehicles.
